What attracted you to apply to join the team?

Northern Healthcare’s PROUD values initially attracted me to Northern Healthcare as these values are how I present myself in my day to day life. To be part of a company with these values excites me!

What made you want to work in mental health?

I have had a keen interest in mental health most of my life. I have always wondered how the mind really works and what makes us who we are. To have the opportunity to work with our fantastic residents will allow me to see the complexities of the mind and how these can be overcome through positive engagement and interaction.

What are the main responsibilities of your role?

As Service Manager at Merchants House, I am responsible for resident assessment and support planning, building maintenance and improvements, compliance and health and safety, team management, morale and support, recruitment, safe staffing, audits, tenancy agreement compliance, financial management and stakeholder management.

What makes Merchants House stand out?

I have worked for many years as part of the local District Nursing Team and have regularly visited Merchants House to care for patients. I see a great deal of opportunities for me to put my stamp on the service and look forward to the challenge!

What are you most excited to see within the service?

I am really excited about the activities we can support our residents with. To see the happy faces and the enjoyment makes the challenges I face worthwhile.

What activities are you looking forward to supporting residents with?

We will be working to create a garden area for our residents to relax and enjoy the sunshine. This will feature a decking area, plants and a space to grow our own fruit and vegetables.

How will you engage with the local community?

Residents will be supported to engage in local community groups and classes based on their interests. We will also be taking our residents to watch local team, Bradford City Football Club, as part of a voluntary role I have as Mental Health Lead at the club. This role is in collaboration with Andy’s Man Club and Mind in Bradford. I hope that this will provide our residents the chance to be heard and give them the freedom to share how they are feeling in a safe setting.

A huge welcome to Robert from all of the team here at Northern Healthcare! We are looking forward to working with you and are excited to see all your ideas come to life.
