Congratulations to Cameron Chambers, our Occupational Therapist at Merchants House, who was recently awarded a 2:1 in Occupational Therapy!
Cameron tells us what inspired her to choose Occupational Therapy and describes her experience of studying Occupational Therapy at University. Here is her story as a newly qualified Occupational Therapist:
“I studied a BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy at the University of Liverpool. This was a 3-year course, so I lived in Liverpool for a year and a half, but this was cut short because of COVID. I returned home in March 2020, which therefore enabled me to complete my placement at Merchants House in May 2021. The placement lasted for 6 weeks.
I completed my final exam on Thursday 19th August and received my result on 13th September – which was a 2:1.
During my course I experienced a range of different specialities including brain injuries, paediatrics, community, cardiology, equipment, mental health and learning disabilities.
I chose occupational therapy as I was inspired by the impact that it had on my great-grandparents lives after facing illness. I thought it was amazing how making subtle changes in their daily routine could impact their independence and wellbeing. This inspired me to study occupational therapy, but I really fell in love with occupational therapy when I started going on placements at university and I could experience it myself.
I was never sure what I wanted to specialise in as a newly-qualified Occupational Therapist, but I loved the placement at Merchants House which inspired me to apply!”
