Service Manager of the Year Winner | Hayley Matthews, Regional Support Manager

Hayley Matthews, Service Manager of the Year at NHC Awards.

After celebrating her win at our NHC Awards 2023, we caught up with Hayley Matthews.

What is your role at Northern Healthcare, and how did you get into it?

I started at Northern Healthcare five years ago as a Support Worker and have since then progressed into different roles. I am now a Regional Support Manager.

What attracted you to join Northern Healthcare?

I always knew I wanted to work in the Adult Social Care Sector and had a passion for helping people. I appreciated the vision that Northern Healthcare had, and how they advertised previous success stories. This led me to wanting to make difference to the people who I would be supporting.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy helping people become the best versions of themselves and tend to have high expectations from the staff I manage but with all the right intentions so the people we support get the support they deserve. I want to ensure that staffing teams maximise their full potential.

What is the most challenging aspect of your role?

I am currently in a new role so still learning what is expected of me. This is challenging for me as I was very confident in my previous role of Service Manager and now, I am having to adapt to different ways of working. I am working with several services and want to ensure that I can support all the managers sufficiently.

How do you and your team support each other?

I feel that the team are amazing at Northern Healthcare and I’ve always felt valued by everyone who works here. I maintain good relationships with all the departments and services. This is helpful as no issue is ever too big and there is always someone willing to help or point you in the right direction.

What makes Northern Healthcare stand out?

I don’t feel there is another service like Northern Healthcare. Although we are expanding, I feel that we are still able to provide excellent person-centered care. I think there are so many fantastic opportunities for staff to develop and learn, it’s good to see a company invest in their workforce.

Please let us know about a standout memory from your time at Northern Healthcare.

In five years there have been lots of different memories so it’s hard to pick just one. I think the best part for me was becoming the Service Manager of Hyde Park and to then see the residents become more independent and build a strong team of people who show kindness and compassion in all they do.

What would you say to someone thinking of joining Northern Healthcare?

I’d say if they’re interested in working for a company who invest so much time and training into their staff and want to be a part of changing people’s lives then this is the right place for them to work.

Did you enjoy the NHC Awards ceremony?

Yes, it was such a lovely day. I enjoyed seeing the different people who had been nominated and celebrating how amazing the staff team across the company are.

How did you celebrate your NHC awards win?

I went for a meal and drinks with family and friends.
