Celebrating Our LaingBuisson Awards Finalist Nomination

Northern Healthcare are made finalists at the 2025 LaingBuisson Awards in the Public Private Partnership category.

We’re delighted to share the exciting news that Northern Healthcare has been named a finalist in the 2025 LaingBuisson Awards, in the Public Private Partnership category. This recognition highlights our collaboration with Bury Metropolitan Borough Council on the creation of Saxon House, a new supported living service that is already making a real difference to people’s lives.

What is Saxon House?

Saxon House opened its doors in March 2025, offering housing and tailored mental health support for up to 13 people who are stepping down from hospital or 24/7 supported living into greater independence. The service was co-produced with Bury Council, Inclusion Housing, and the Bury Community Mental Health Team, ensuring a joined-up approach that combines secure, affordable housing with high-quality, person-centred support.

Together, we’ve transformed a former retail building into a welcoming, purpose-designed home. Saxon House spans four floors of modern apartments, complemented by a communal courtyard and easy access to local transport, an ideal setting for recovery and reintegration into the community.

How We Support Independence

At Saxon House, our focus is on helping people with a mental health diagnosis build the confidence and skills they need for independent living.

Support includes:

  • Recovery-focused care
  • Medication management
  • Budgeting, cooking, and other daily living skills
  • Goal-setting and personal development
  • Social inclusion and community engagement

Our model provides structured support throughout the day and into the early evening. This flexible approach helps people build independence while knowing support is there when it’s needed, creating a safe and reassuring environment.

Stories of Progress

Even in the early stages, the benefits of this model are clear. While living at Montgomery House with 24/7 support, Dave developed the skills to manage his medication, secure paid work, and enjoy greater independence. These achievements prepared him for life at Saxon House, where he could continue building on his progress and experience the fuller independence and opportunities the service is designed to enable.

Why This Partnership Matters

Working with Bury Council and Inclusion Housing, Saxon House gives individuals a step down from higher support settings into independent living.

Saxon House provides:

  • A safe and supportive environment where people can thrive
  • The ability to build daily living skills and seek employment opportunities
  • Continuity of care thanks to links with community mental health services

Looking Ahead

Being recognised as a LaingBuisson Awards finalist is a proud moment for everyone involved in Saxon House. More importantly, it’s a reflection of the lives being changed; people gaining independence, rediscovering confidence, and finding their place in the community.

We’re excited to continue building on this success, working with our partners to expand opportunities for recovery-focused supported living, and ensuring that more people have the chance to step confidently into the next stage of their lives.
