Northern Healthcare, in collaboration with Bury Metropolitan Borough Council, hosted a special open day on Tuesday, 20 May 2025, to celebrate the successful launch of Saxon House — a new move-on supported living service in the heart of Bury.
The open day brought together individuals supported by the service along with key partners and stakeholders involved in its development, providing an opportunity to reflect on the hard work behind the scenes and to mark the beginning of a new chapter for the individuals supported by the service and team members alike.
Saxon House offers 13 one-bedroom apartments, including three two-storey mews homes, with tailored support for individuals living with mental health conditions and/or mild learning disabilities. The service is designed to provide a safe and empowering environment that encourages independence, recovery, and long-term well-being.
Guests were given the opportunity to explore the thoughtfully designed spaces and hear how Saxon House is already having a positive impact on individuals’ recovery journeys.
Nicola Forshaw, CEO of Northern Healthcare, addressed attendees during the event, stating: “Saxon House has been thoughtfully created to be more than just a place to live – it’s a place to grow. Our aim is to empower each person on their recovery journey by focusing on their strengths and supporting their potential. We know that the best support comes through working together, which is why partnership is at the heart of everything we do; with the people who live here, the community mental health team, and our wider network of professionals and neighbours. This service is the result of close teamwork with Bury Council and our community partners, and I want to thank everyone who helped bring this vision to life. Together, we’re creating a true home where recovery and opportunity go hand in hand.”
Councillor Tamoor Tariq, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Adult Care, Health and Well-Being at Bury Council, added: “Saxon House is a testament to our commitment to expanding specialist mental health accommodation in Bury. It marks a significant milestone in our work to ensure people have access to high-quality homes and the support they need to thrive. The service’s central location makes it ideal for accessing local amenities, and our Community Mental Health Team will work closely with the Saxon House care team to provide integrated, person-centred support. We’re proud to collaborate with Northern Healthcare to enhance the quality of life for people across the borough. A sincere thank you to everyone involved in making this project a reality.”
Above all, Saxon House stands as a symbol of what can be achieved when compassionate care and strong partnership come together. For the individuals supported today, and those who will come through its doors in the future, it represents a place of safety, possibility, and hope on the journey toward independence and a fulfilling life in the Bury community.
