Anna moved to Northern Healthcare’s Kirk House following a period of crisis, including suicidal thoughts and struggles with isolation and grief. Initially anxious and vulnerable, she received consistent, compassionate support from staff, helping her regain stability and confidence. Over time, Anna has built daily routines, strengthened social connections, and begun volunteering, taking meaningful steps towards independence, purpose, and improved well-being.
Max moved to Northern Healthcare’s Mary Seacole House after leaving hospital, ready to take the next step towards independence. Although the transition brought understandable anxiety, he quickly engaged with staff and began building confidence in his abilities. With consistent, person-centred support, Max has developed strong daily living skills, improved his well-being, and is now preparing to move into a more independent living placement, a significant milestone in his recovery journey.
Richard moved to Northern Healthcare’s Grainger House in January 2021 during a period of significant change in his life, when he was no longer able to live independently. Initially anxious and unsettled, he required consistent, person-centred support to help him adjust to a new environment. Through tailored routines, trust-building and gradual skill development, Richard has grown in confidence and independence, now managing his daily life with minimal support and feeling settled, safe and supported in his home.
This has been a season of achievement and connection across Northern Healthcare, from being named a finalist at the 2025 LaingBuisson Awards for our partnership with Bury Metropolitan Borough Council on Saxon House, to seeing so many examples of recovery-focused progress and community engagement across our services.
From the outset, the team at Amy Johnson House worked closely with Mark to develop a tailored Care and Support Plan focused on stability, confidence-building, and gradual community engagement.
Initially quiet and hesitant, Mark slowly began to open up, forming positive relationships with both staff and peers. Over time, he became one of the most sociable people in the service,
known for his sharp wit, sense of humour, and ability to lift everyone’s spirits!
