Rising to the challenges of COVID-19, the response of Northern Healthcare: Supporting people with long-term mental health problems

Northern Healthcare’s response to COVID-19 is now published in the British Journal of Mental Health Nursing

The COVID-19 crisis has impacted on us all. However, as lockdown measures begin to ease, people living with long-term mental health problems will remain vulnerable over the coming months – possibly until a vaccine is developed. This paper describes how Northern Healthcare has responded to the coronavirus crisis; to continue to safely provide support to a highly vulnerable population. This response focuses on maintaining a safe service provision and on measures aimed at alleviating the burden on the wider NHS. Key learnings and responses are outlined which will prove beneficial in streamlining the response of mental health services facing similar pandemics.
